May 2000 Issue |
It's time for you to make a stand .....of trees |
|
We are going to start this month's issue with a quick little project that has a
thousand uses. You will probably want to make more than one of these self contained
tree stands. First get some corrugated cardboard, foamcore board, model railroad bedding
or paper mache' what ever you want to work with and cut it ( or make it) into
a couple fairly long strips (how long and wide is up to you). I'm using
cardboard as you can see.
|
Next put the two strips on top of each other and glue or tape them together.
Glue is probably the better way to go but I'm using tape because I have
a deadline to meet. Fix them together as shown above. By the way
if you are using something thicker than standard cardboard you may only
need one layer.
| |
Wrap the cardboard in green or brown art paper, paint it green
or brown or attach some ground cover. Anything that covers
the cardboard will do.
| |
Begin to attach trees. I'm using a mixture of Heki (30
tree assorted set Number 303) and Timberline Landscape Co.
(Part number 601335).
| |
If necessary cut a small hole in the paper or cardboard
before attempting to poke the trunk of the tree in.
This will keep you from bending the tree
| |
|
The pic at left shows our finished stand. It's now ready to be placed
anywhere we need a strip of trees. And the whole stand can be
picked up and moved anywhere.
|
|
Be sure to cover the base of the stand
with ground cover so that it blends in.
Well that's it it's time for you to make your stand.
Have fun and ... KEEP ON VILLAGING!!
